Hearings are expected to last four days.
The Senate Judiciary Committee began confirmation hearings Monday for President Biden’s first Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson. If confirmed, Judge Jackson would succeed retiring Justice Stephen Breyer and would be the first black female to sit on the nation’s highest court.
Monday’s hearing will consist of opening statements from committee members followed by a statement from Judge Jackson.
Legislators say the confirmation hearings will probe the nominee’s work as a public defender, and her record on crime. They anticipate the probe will be deep but not contentious.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of the Senate Judiciary Committee as they conduct the hearings.
- For Judge Jackson as she goes through the confirmation process.
- For discernment for the president as he continues to nominate individuals for federal posts.
